Propose a New Award

TMS has established awards and programs which honor outstanding achievements in the worldwide minerals, metals, and materials community.

If you would like to propose a new award, please complete the application and submit it to awards@tms.org for review. TMS staff will send your proposal to the appropriate committee(s) for review and communicate their decision to the Award Requestor. Once funding and all appropriate documents are approved, TMS will begin the award’s nomination and selection process.

  • Society, young professional, and student awards must be approved by the Honors & Professional Recognition Committee and TMS Board of Directors.
  • Division awards must be approved by the sponsoring technical committee and the Division Council.
  • Endowed awards must also be approved by the governing committee(s) and the TMS Foundation Board of Trustees.

Some things to consider before moving forward with proposing a new award through/from TMS:

  • Establishing a new award is a unique process for each award.
  • Review the list of current awards from TMS to make sure there is no overlap with an existing award.
  • If an award incorporates a prize including cash, registration, and/or travel, this will require financing and be considered an endowed award.

For guidance on completing the application, please email TMS Awards, or call 1-724-814-3142.
